A well written piece.
However, calling this - “At the end I asked what my colleague heard. The response was baffling: “I heard nothing but excuses and I don’t hear any clear solutions for moving ahead.”” - oppression, or a white supremacist act, is one hell of a hyperbole.
One could put the white man’s act down to job incompetence, indifference or even an optimist (because, as you later acknowledged, he talks about needing a solution and not just reel off the problems to him).
You have to learn to work with people, irrespective of their colour and deal with every human, accordingly, not race.
Next time, be upfront with your white bosses, like you were with your black ones, and stop acting like some neo-slave, who can’t look their “master” in the face and tell him straight facts. And, please don’t tell me you can’t or you’ll lose your job - I was 19, black and did just that!
